Many of our nation’s veterans require assistance later in life because of injuries that occurred while in the service of the country. When your veteran loved one needs assistance in their daily life, there are many avenues to consider. Hiring in-home care is a good way for your loved one to receive care without affecting their home environment much.
Veteran Injuries and Home Care
Veterans that went through traumatic injuries, amputations, and more can benefit from home care assistance to improve their daily lives. Whether they require mobility assistance or just a helping hand around the house, in-home care can help your loved one maintain a safer and easier lifestyle.
In-Home Care and PTSD
Unfortunately, many veterans suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD can be triggered by a variety of situational or environmental factors. These triggers can create further stressful situations for your loved one. By focusing on care in-home, you can help reduce situations where PTSD episodes occur. It is easier to reduce and remove potential stressors than in a nursing home or assisted living facility. With more control over their own environment, your loved one will also feel safer, which can be beneficial in this regard as well.
The Veteran’s Affairs Office
The VA offers payment for home healthcare services as part of the VHA Standard Medical Benefits Package. Overall, this means that any veteran can receive funding for home healthcare if they meet the clinical requirements set by the VA. Generally, for a vet to seek care from an outside entity, they would need to show that they cannot receive the proper care at a VA facility. But, the VA does not provide home health care themselves. This means that any veteran in need of in-home care may find their own provider and receive care. Depending on your loved one’s needs, some or all of their home healthcare costs can fall under their coverage plan. For more information on the VA’s coverage, click here.
